COUNCIL TO SHUT DOWN COUNTY WATER SUPPLY

Date Published: 30-Dec-2009

All areas of the County served by the Mid Galway Water Supply scheme will be without water tonight.

The County Council has decided to shut the entire system down to conserve reservoir levels and build up pressure.

The Council says public warnings to turn off running taps and to check outside leaks have been ignored.

Over 25 thousand cubic metres of water has already been pumped into the system to no effect.

Pressure isn't being given enough time to build up and the water is vanishing quickly due to high demand.

Hundreds of homes - previously unaffected by the crisis - will now be without water from 6 o'clock this evening to 9 o'clock tomorrow morning.
