Council for the West urges government to implement rural report
Galway Bay fm newsroom – The Council for the West is urging the government to implement recommendations made by a rural development commission as a matter of extreme urgency. The Commission for the Economic Development of Rural Areas report outlines 38 points to guide rural economic development until 2025. It hightlights areas such as tourism, agriculture, the marine, the caring sector, financial and software services and medical devices. The Council of the West is a voluntary independent body established to monitor the socio-economic conditions in seven counties in the West including Galway. Declan O Callaghan, Vice-Chairman of the Council, says that the report was prepared at the request of the government but there are concerns that nothing has been heard since.
