CORRUNDULLA TEENAGER GETS JAIL FOR DANGEROUS DRIVING

A 19 year-old Corrundulla man has been jailed for a year for dangerous driving and put off the road for eight years at Galway Circuit Criminal Court. Alan Harte of Cluide, Corrundulla, had previously pleaded guilty to dangerous driving causing serious bodily harm to a front female passenger of his car on the 18th of November 2006. Garda Daragh Brown told Galway Circuit Criminal Court that he was called to the scene of a crash on a narrow road going towards Tuam at 4am on the 18th of November 2006. He concluded the driver of the Opel Vectra, the then-18-year-old Alan Harte, was intoxicated and arrested him. The female front passenger of the car sustained a dislocated left elbow, two fractured vertebrae, as well as serious injuries to her knee and wrist. Con Crowley BL, defending, told Judge Raymond Groarke that the Probation services would like to see Alan Harte address his alcohol problem, preferably by in-house treatment at Merlin Park. Passing sentence Judge Groarke said Harte's unfortunate front seat passenger sustained injuries that are likely in the future to affect her. Judge Groarke sentenced him to one year in prison and disqualified him from holding a driving licence for 8 years.
