Contractor appointed for removal of Bodkin roundabout
Galway Bay fm newsroom - A contractor has been appointed for the removal of Bodkin roundabout near Galway Shopping Centre.
It's the fourth in a series of changeovers to traffic light junctions as part of the city's N6 multi-modal corridor improvement scheme.
John Madden & Sons has been awarded the 1.7 million euro contract.
Work is due to start in the coming days and will continue throughout the summer period.
It's hoped the project will be complete by the end of November in advance of the pre-christmas shopping season.
Discussions have also taken place with local retailers.
City officials say traffic disruption will be kept to a minimum with lanes open at peak times and any closures at non peak or night-time periods.
Seven tenders were assessed for the project.
