FG in bid to repeat Galway West double
Fine Gael is rallying the troops in Galway West, as the party fights to hang on to the two seats it won – against the odds – in 2016.
Maria Walsh MEP launched the Fine Gael Galway West General Election campaign at the Menlo Park Hotel on Monday – Junior Minister Seán Kyne and Deputy Hildegarde Naughton TD are seeking re-election on a two-candidate ticket.
Kyne polled the third highest of all candidates in the constituency in Galway West in 2016. Naughton was seventh after the first count, and behind her FG colleague, Senator John O’Mahony, but she hoovered up more transfers than the former Galway football manager and took the fifth seat on the 14th and final count.
Ms Walsh said: “Seán and Hildegarde have worked tirelessly to represent the people of Galway West both locally and nationally, with energy, compassion and tireless determination. Throughout the last four years, they have worked closely with their constituents to deliver critical services in communities across the constituency.
“At national level Seán and Hildegarde, have been highly industrious, ensuring vital infrastructure projects are undertaken in Galway. Both have been instrumental in delivering investment for jobs, environment, and broadband for the west to ensure this progress can continue. No other party in Galway can boast this calibre of candidate.”
