Connacht humiliated

THEY close off the main street in Cardiff city centre on Friday nights to protect the most inebriated revellers from getting run-over by traffic when they stumble onto the street. A punch drunk Connacht could have benefited from similar restrictions in their own 22 at the Arms Park as they were hit by on coming traffic nine times on a miserable evening.Connacht made nine changes from the side that secured the season’s opening win against Glasgow and were duly blown to smithereens in an eight-minute spell before half time that surely ranks as the most humiliating in the province’s history. Five tries conceded, one every 90 seconds. It would be funny, if it wasn’t so bloody embarrassing. If this sort of away form continues it’s hard to see how Connacht rugby can remain in existence beyond this season. Judging by the influx of new signings and the retention of key squad members, this appears to be the most expansive panel ever assembled and in just two away games, they have conceded 103 points and scored just three. Such scorelines kill momentum, effect crowds at matches and make the case for those who still want us axed. The spin from the powers that be after the 45-3 away defeat against Llanelli was that Connacht were 'targeting just a handful of games this season and Llanelli away wasn’t one of them’. Well if this ridiculous and farcical statement is true, perhaps.....
