The council is being urged to take action to guarantee the quality and maintanence of local roads during the construction of the new M17 motorway.

Oranmore Councillor Jim Cuddy is urging the council to outline designated haulage routes for the transportation of materials for the work, and to ensure that contractors responsible for the build undertake the maintenance and repair of the routes.

This comes in response to extensive road damage that resulted from the construction of the M6 motorway which opened in 2009.

A motion on the matter has been put forward for the next County Council meeting.
