CONCERNS OVER DELAYED AMBULANCE TIMES TO GALWAY UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL

Date Published: 19-Jul-2012
The Ambulance Service has apologised to the family of a 19-year-old girl, who died after she was taken to Galway University Hospital via an indirect route.
Elaine Curley from Creggs in Co Roscommon died on the two hour journey from the scene of a car crash on the Galway-Roscommon border which should have taken around an hour and 20 minutes.
The incident took place last November.
Local TD Denis Naughten says the Curley family want to highlight how difficult it is for people in Roscommon to get emergency treatment in Galway - following the closure of Roscommon A and E.
Speaking on Galway Talks, he says the paramedic was on site within 20 minutes but it took over two hours for the ambulance to reach UHG
