Concern over open air African church gatherings in Castlegar
Galway Bay fm newsroom - Concerns have been raised over noise disturbance being experienced by residents in the Parkmore area due to all-night weekend gatherings at an African church in Castlegar.
City Cllr Frank Fahy claims open-air parties are taking place at weekends at an industrial unit leased by an African church.
He said he observed up to 50 people partaking in the activity until the early hours of this morning with numerous cars parked in the area.
A spokesperson for Galway City Council says a number of unauthorised places of worship have to come its attention.
In such circumstances, many of the congregations apply for planning permission and secure correct authorisation.
In a small number of cases, the Council issues an enforcement order and the activity stops.
Speaking on Galway Talks, Cllr Fahy says while everyone has a right to worship, the concerns of the neighbouring community must be taken into account.
