Road safety chiefs in the West have expressed concern about a new game among young motorists which they warn is putting many lives at risk.

Noel Gibbons, Road Safety Officer at Mayo County Council says young drivers are engaging in a "beat the clock" where they try to trim minutes off the estimated journey times on SatNavs.

The practise is said to be most common among young drivers, but middle-aged drivers and some pensioners are also engaging in this game.
