Concern is mounting this afternoon for the future of up to 200 jobs at a city medical firm.

Beckman Coulter - which has its largest european manufacturing base in Mervue Business Park - is refusing to confirm or deny reports it's planning to move its operations to Clare.

Beckman Coulter currently employs up to 200 staff in the city.

It's understood the company is re-organising its operations to a newly purchased establishment in O'Callaghan's Mills in County Clare which could spell the possible loss of hundreds of Galway jobs.

The medical diagnostic kit manufacturer has been in operation in the city for 35 years.

Beckman Coulter develops, manufactures and markets products that simplify and automate biomedical testing.

When contacted by Galway Bay FM news, a spokesperson for the multinational said the company did not wish to make any comment on the matter.
