4.6 million euro has so far been spent on the city's N6 multi modal corridor improvement scheme which has seen the replacement of a series of roundabouts with traffic light junctions.

City officials say a final claim remains to be submitted in relation to the Font and Morris junctions which is to be processed and recouped by the NRA when the claim has been certified for payment.

City Cllr Padraig Conneely says the budget for the removal of six roundabouts in the scheme was initially estimated at 6.5 million euro.

However City Officials say the 6.5 million is NOT an absolute budget and is simply an allocation that is reviewed as the project progresses.

A City Council spokesperson adds that the NRA is happy with how the overall project is proceeding and is also happy to continue funding it.

Speaking to Galway Bay fm news, he has raised concerns that the project is now likely to cost far more than was originally estimated.
