CONCERN GROWS OVER ARAN ISLANDS PORT CHARGES

Date Published: 06-Oct-2011
The proposed byelaws for Cill Rónáin Harbour and Cill Éinne harbours on the Aran Islands need to become a national issue.
That's according to County Councillor Seán Ó Tuairisg who says the byelaws will have a major impact on island life.
The issue was on the agenda for a meeting of the County Council last month, but was deferred until this month.
The laws look set to introduce new charges for ferry passengers and cargo ships using the harbours.
It's claimed it will take 200 thousand euro to run Cill Rónáin port each year.
