City Councillors have voted in favour of providing funding of 50 thousand euro annually for four years to help the Doughiska Roscam Ardaun group [DRA] in its efforts to purchase the Amber Lodge Hotel for community purposes.

The motion, proposed by Cllr Frank Fahey and seconded by Mayor Terry O’Flaherty, was supported by a total of 13 Cllrs, with two absent, at a special meeting last evening.

It was passed subject to conditons to include appropriate representation on the management committee and suitable arrangements regarding security for the council’s contribution.

It followed a presentation from the DRA Chairperson Dan Hurley who stated that the proposed centre would be used as an educational hub, neighbourhood centre and or church for the area.
