Cllr hits out at ban on overnight camper van parking in Kinvara

Galway Bay fm newsroom – Fine Gael's newest councillor for the Loughrea district Joe Byrne has hit out at a recent decision to ban campervans from parking overnight in Kinvara. Joe Byrne says the order is disappointing and sends out the wrong message from a town situated along the Wild Atlantic Way. At Loughrea Municipal District's first meeting this week, District Manager Jim Cullen told members a prohibition order had been made concerning such temporary dwellings. Cllr Joe Byrne said it was a ‘very hot' subject in Kinvara which prevents such visitors from helping the local tourist sector. Fianna Fail Cllr Gerry Finnerty said while most towns are empty, Kinvara has people pulling in in campervans regularly. He said he was aware of concerns about the way they do their business, however as there was now a ministerial order, there was no room for further discussion. Cllr Michael Fahy suggested a public carpark is needed in the town centre. However Joe Byrne said there is no quick fix for Kinvara and that while a carpark should be considered as part of the ‘end game', a sewage scheme must first be prioritised.
