The national car testing centre in Clifden recorded the highest vehicle fail rate in the country last year.

Figures contained in the National Car Testing annual report show that almost 60 percent of the cars tested did not meet the criteria.

2 thousand 600 cars were examined in the Clifden centre last year and of these just over 1 thousand passed the test.

In Galway city, over 21 thousand vehicles did not meet criteria out of the 38 thousand cars tested.
