Claregalway man to be sentenced for sex assault
Galway Bay fm newsroom – A 32-year-old Claregalway man will be sentenced in July for sexually assaulting a woman near Salthill last year. The man pleaded guilty before Galway Circuit Criminal Court to sexually assaulting the woman at Illifanamona Island, on the stretch of shoreline between Salthill and Silverstrand, on October 13, 2013. Mr Martin Giblin SC, defending, said his client's case had been listed for July 7 to fix a date for trial but given his plea it could now be taken out of the trial list. He asked for sentence to be adjourned for a time as he was awaiting a psychological report on his client. Judge Thomas O'Donnell remanded the man on continuing bail to appear before the court again on July 9 for sentence. He directed the preparation of a victim impact statement for that date also and granted both the defence and prosecution teams liberty to re-enter the matter if they wanted to change the sentence date before July.
