CITY FORMS ALLIANCE AGAINST COMMUNITY CUTS

"Galway is at breaking point".

That's according to an alliance of local groups and organisations throughout the city which has formed in a bid to protect the disadvantaged from further cuts.

"Protect Communities - Protect Galway" includes local networks such as Galway City Community Forum, Action for Equality, Galway City Partnership and SIPTU.

The alliance is calling on the government to protect the marginalised and will produce a pre-budget submission for the city.

Tommy Flaherty of Galway City Community Forum says local representatives will be held to account.
