The city council is planning to quadruple the number of social homes it gets from new housing developments. Under Part Five of the Planning Act, the city council allocates one social home for each affordable home it allocates. However under new proposals to be brought before the city council in September, it will allocate four social homes for each affordable home allocated in a new housing development. Director of Services for Housing with the City Council Joe O'Neill says there's now a greater need in the city for social housing.
