CITY COUNCIL DEFENDS DECISION TO STOP FREE BOTTLED WATER TO LEAD AFFECTED HOMES

The city council is refuting claims it didn't inform city councillors that it's decided to stop delivering free bottled water to homes affected by lead contamination.City councillor Catherine Connolly has raised concerns that the council unilaterally took the decision to stop providing homes in Old Mervue, The Claddagh, Bohermore and Shantalla with free bottled water. 77 homes in the affected areas received letters from the city council yesterday informing them that they were no longer getting any free water as their water is safe to drink. The city council had been providing the water as a good will gesture since the discovery of high lead levels in September of last year. Director of Services with the City Council Ciaran Hayes says the councillors were told of the decision last week.
