Galway Bay fm newsroom - A man has gone on trial charged with assaulting another man with a glass in an unprovoked attack near Eyre Square, which has left the victim with permanent facial scarring.
24 year old Shannon Walsh, with an address at Lus Leana, Headford Road denies assaulting a 27-year-old Knocknacarra man, causing him harm at Frenchville Lane, near Ceannt Station, in the early hours of Christmas Eve, 2010.
The victim told the jury at Galway Circuit Criminal Court he and his younger sister had been in Coyote's in Forster Street but following an incident there, security staff asked everyone to leave.
He and his sister were walking up Frenchville Lane and were just approaching the corner at Fox's pub, when he was suddenly "glassed" in the face.
The victim told the jury "I just remember a bang on my face. I had to have surgery on Christmas Eve and I received 50 stitches. I'm on a list for plastic surgery but I'll haves scars for the rest of my life".
The victim's sister said she knew Walsh for years through a mutual friend and she said she saw him carry out the assault.
Walsh denied being involved in the assault. He said the victim's sister had mistakenly identified him.
The trial is continuing.
