A Tuam councillor has called on local authority officials to ensure all lead piping in the town is replaced as part of the ongoing Big Dig.Councillor Michael Connolly says residents in areas such as Sun Street are concerned that the lead piping is not going to be addressed as part of the ongoing water excavation works.Galway County Council told Galway Bay FM news that it would replace all lead piping in the area, and that it had found much less lead in the area than was originally anticipated. The council said that it would only replace piping as far as stopcocks which enter individual properties - and that beyond that is the responsibility of home-owners. Work on the Big Dig is due for completion by the end of this month. But, Councillor Connolly says further clarification is needed on any remaining lead piping.
