Call for clampdown on unlicenced city rickshaws
Galway Bay fm newsroom - City Councillor Frank Fahy has called for a review of rickshaws which he claims are illegally operating in the city centre.
Licences for these rickshaws expired at the end of last month (June 13).
It followed a vote by the local authority to ban commercial rickshaws from operating in the city at a meeting in March.
Bye-laws to allow rickshaws were initially approved in 2010, on the basis they be reviewed after a year.
Cllr Frank Fahy told today's meeting of the Joint Policing Committee that the operation of rickshaws is still business as usual on Shop Street.
Chief Superintendent Tom Curley said the laws are being enforced and further information will be available at the next meeting of the committee.
Cllr Fahy says the matter needs to be addressed.
