A brave father and son duo alongside other heroes of the Clifden RNLI sprang into action on Sunday to carry out a back to back callout.

The crew of volunteers were first tasked to help swimmers who had gotten into difficulty on Mannin Bay but they had swam safely to shore as the team had just arrived.

Then, the lifeboat crew were radioed again. This time to help save a family of seven in Clifden Bay whose boats began drifting towards rocks near Turbot Island.

Among the crew members on Clifden’s Atlantic 85 was James Mullen who was working alongside his son Ronan in what was the young teenager’s first emergency after joining earlier this year.

James Mullen, Clifden RNLI Coxswain said; “Thankfully we had very good outcomes yesterday and I'd like to thank our brilliant crew who worked really well together to bring that family of seven people to safety.”

“Clifden RNLI is ready to respond 24/7 to anyone who is in distress in or around the water. Please don't delay in looking for help, you could save a life by calling 999/112 at the first sign of trouble. Please be safe and enjoy our beautiful Connemara coast.”
