Galway has received the city's best result ever in the latest survey by Irish Business Against Litter.

Three quarters of sites surveyed in the city got the highest rating, including the Spanish Arch and the Salthill Promenade.

Galway City is ranked in 13th place in the IBAL litter league which examines litter levels in over 50 towns and cities nationwide.

Judges say that Galway could have been named cleanest city had it not been for the litter levels found on the grounds of Merlin Park Hospital.

Tuam comes in at number 27 and is also identified as clean to European norms.
