Barna native Dora Gorman has been selected as the guest of honour to lead this year's St Patrick's Day parade in the city.

The 19 year old soccer star captained the Republic of Ireland Under 17 Womens team at the European Championships and has also won titles at GAA senior football level and in hockey.

Dora was selected by a panel of judges from local community groups and businesses this week.

The UCD medical student will lead 80 groups through the city when the parade gets underway on Dominic Street at 11.30 on Saturday morning.

Speaking to Galway Bay fm news, Dora says she's honoured to have been chosen as one of the youngest leaders in the parade's history.
