The ban on the sale of single houses in the Connemara Gaeltacht is to remain at 7 years. The only people who must wait 15 years before they're allowed sell their home are fluent Irish speakers from outside the area.An earlier proposal that there should be a sale ban of 15 years on ALL single houses in Gaeltacht areas west of Galway caused much controversy. But after much discussion between councillors at last night's council meeting, it was decided that the 7 year sale ban will remain.Local councillor Seamas Walsh says the 15 year sale ban on non-Gaeltacht natives will protect the Irish language.
