Plans to increase the size of the New Quarter currently being built in Athenry have got the go-ahead. An Bord Pleanala has upheld an approval by county planners to allow Oyster Homes Ltd expand their permitted development at Cross Street by over 500 square metres. The amendments to the New Quarter development on the Athenry House lands include an additional 183 car parking spaces. There will be ten extra retail units on the ground floor, 8 more offices on the first floor, new travellators at basement level and escalators between ground floor and first floor levels. The height of the set back roof will be increased but the overall height of the pyramid roof will stay the same. The changes were fiercely opposed by Athenry Concerned Resident Association and Ms Nora Monaghan of Riversdale House, Athenry.
