ALLEGATION OF DELAY IN SEEING MENTAL HEALTH PATIENT

Galway Bay Fm newsroom

An allegation claiming there had been a substantial delay in dealing with a person with mental health issues at a Galway hospital was made at this week’s Tuam Town Council meeting.

The claim was made by Independent Councillor Mary Loftus.

Councillor Loftus claimed that when somebody she knew presented himself at the A&E Department of University Hospital Galway with what she described as “suicidal tendencies” last March he was “fobbed off”.

Councillor Loftus alleged that the man got a letter two days later with an appointment for the second week in May.

She described it as “unacceptable” and “unforgivable” that this man should have to wait two months for such an appointment.
