9 FAMILIES TO COME OFF CITY SOCIAL HOUSING LIST

Nine families from the City's Social Housing waiting list are to get houses this Christmas or early in the New Year.

The City Council has agreed to dispose of houses at An Leargán, Reileán, Boireann Bheag and Woodview to the voluntary housing association, Helm Housing.

The unsold, unoccupied affordable homes will be leased on a five year basis.

The Council can now recoup the loan charges on the properties from the Department of the Environment.

At last night's City Council meeting, there was some concern that the tenants would not have the same protection as they would have if they were City Council tenants.
