The NCT has warned that this was ‘not something to take lightly’

The NCT has warned motorists across Ireland after a routine inspection found ‘critical structural damage’ in a car.

In a post on Facebook, NCT Ireland said that during an underbody inspection of a car, it appeared that the subframe, a critical structural component, had been cut, and this was not something to take lightly,

The said,

“When the shortcut becomes a structural problem…

“While conducting the underbody inspection, our inspectors came across a vehicle with the subframe cut on both sides.

“The subframe is a critical structural component — cutting it is not something to take lightly. Whatever the reason, modifications to structural components need to be carried out correctly and to the appropriate safety standards.

“It might look like a quick fix, but when it comes to structural integrity, there are no shortcuts.

A vehicle’s subframe forms part of its underlying structure and helps support key components of the car. Any damage or inappropriate modification can therefore raise serious concerns about the vehicle’s structural integrity.

The NCT regularly uses examples uncovered during inspections to highlight potential safety issues and remind motorists of the importance of maintaining their vehicles correctly.

Motorists are being reminded that structural repairs or modifications should be carried out properly and to the required safety standards.
