Styling tools restyled by third generation hairdresser

When the rest of us were piling on pounds or splashing out on online goods we did not need out of boredom, a Galway hairdresser was in the middle of an invention frenzy during the Covid lockdowns.

Barry Healy was not used to being idle.

So when his two Momento hair salons shut – one on High Street in Galway city and the other in the heart of Ennis – he pursued a passion he never had time to indulge before.

What he wanted to create was a line of practical, reasonably priced hair styling tools that were simple to use but had all the benefits of the tricks of the trade after years of working on all types of hair.

It’s a lucrative market. Dyson’s Airwrap styler retails for €500 while the GHD top hair straightener will set you back €349.

His wife and business partner Deirdre was a key guinea pig given her penchant for using stylers on her own locks in the absence of clients.

“People I knew were getting clothes delivered from Shein and I was getting plastics, mouldings and different handles delivered to my door,” he confides.

“I knew what I wanted but it was a process of trial and error to get exactly what I was after. The factory in the Far East would send me samples and I would then tweak them numerous times to get it right.”
