Rare chance to catch drama in development

New work from eight of theatre’s brightest young artists will be presented at the Town Hall Theatre on Saturday, May 17, as part of a training initiative run by locally based JOLT initiative.
Eight short pieces of drama, covering topics from the modern emigrant experience to the perils of extreme parenting, will be staged by eight different artists who are taking part in Jolt’s Volition, a project which has been running in Galway since last September. Each performance will last no more than 15 minutes and all are extracts from longer pieces currently in development.
Jolt was set up in Galway in 2011 by two young local arts administrators, Róisín Stack and Craig Flaherty, to support local artists and help present their work. Last year the duo applied for an Arts
Council grant and received €13,000 under a relatively new scheme designed to encourage training and development for professional theatre makers. “ We were doing what they wanted when they started this funding,” explains Róisín of their Arts Council success.
A total of 32 companies and individuals applied for the Jolt Volition training scheme and these were whittled down to eight, six of them from Galway with one each coming from Clare and Cork.
