Mr. Phillip O’Gorman presided at a small but interesting meeting of the West of Ireland Tourist Development Association held at the Chamber of Commerce Galway, on Saturday afternoon last when letters were read from Mr. Foyle of the Railway Hotel, Clifden, and Miss McKeown of McKeown’s Hotel, Leenane, giving their rates for visitors.
Both proprietors submitted a full list of rates, filling in the forms sent out by Mr. J. M. Leech, the secretary of the association. The meeting considered that the rates set down were exceedingly reasonable, and that their publication in conjunction with the rates of other hotels would attract people to the West.
Mr. J. Mongan, Carna, made the interesting announcement that he and Mr. W. Sweeney, Oughterard, are calling a special meeting of Connemara Hotel proprietors to be held at Peacocke’s Hotel, Maam Cross, on Sunday afternoon next, for the purpose of endeavouring to fix a uniform standard of charges.
This was considered a step in the right direction, and one that will enormously help the work of the organisation.
