Driven to distraction as we try and steer clear of road perils

We’re probably all guilty of it at some point or other, namely that of driving along while being distracted by something happening in the car.

Maybe the phone falls from the passenger seat and the temptation is there to stretch over and pick it up . . . or you ‘get lost’ with a song or tune that’s being played on the radio . . . or sometimes your mind just wanders off to distant places.

One of the most common habits that drivers admit to is in singing songs as they merrily commute to perform their daily chores. So, if you belt out Danny Boy, Nessun Dorma, or Wooden Heart on your way in and out of work, it’s a habit you share with a lot of other motorists. Hopefully, for the sake of passenger sanity, they are ‘driver only’ cars.

People driving cars can be caught doing everything from picking their noses (it happens but no one admits to it) to changing their clothes or simply giving the dog the chance to sit on their laps and have a go at the old steering business.

I remember last year having a browse through the Reader’s Digest – now that’s a blast from the past – where they went through the 11 craziest/weirdest things that people have been seen doing, while behind the wheel of their beloved motor.

Now, I’ve always heard that women are better at multi-tasking, based I suppose, on their need to run a home, raise children, earn a bit of money for the house, and still look a million dollars after all that, but some of their ‘second tasks’ while driving take beating.
