So it was with Enda Barton.  The native of Creagh in Ballinasloe was made redundant from his job in digital marking last year because of the pandemic. At the same time, his fiancée Madeleine Canty was pregnant with their first child, daughter Sienna.

So why bamboo?

Bamboo fabric is one of the softest fabrics in the world and is often compared to silk. Its smooth fibres that make up its structure make it ideal for making super soft babywear. It is hypo-allergenic making it ideal for babies with sensitive skin.

Bamboo fabric is 40 per cent more absorbent than even the finest organic cotton and it wicks away dampness – up to four times faster. “This fast absorption and wicking keeps moisture away so that the fabric does not stick to your baby's skin, and dries quickly so that your baby feels cooler and more comfortable.”

Bamboo fabric also boasts natural antibacterial properties. “The natural bio-agent found in bamboo helps reduce bacteria that build up on clothing and other materials as well as on human skin. This means that no chemical treatment is needed to add anti-bacterial properties, so you get clothes that are friendlier on your baby’s skin and the environment.”
