Apprenticeship programme offers blended education

Galway Technical Institute is to help create 20 new jobs through the National Accounting Technician Apprenticeship – a funded, work-based learning programme where locally-placed apprentices earn at least €18,000 a year.
Leaving Cert students and mature learners can apply for the programme through Accounting Technicians Ireland. Successful applicants will work four days a week with a local employer and study one day a week at GTI.
“GTI is delighted to be partnering with ATI in providing the Accounting Technician Apprenticeship in the West of Ireland,” said GTI Principal Geraldine Gibbons.
“The blended learning structure of this apprenticeship provides learners with professional studies together with practical work experience.
“The academic side of the programme gives participants a solid grounding in critical accounting theory such as financial accounting, taxation, law and ethics as well as wider business know-how such as management.
“With mentorship in both college and the workplace, participants can quickly grasp the concepts they learn in college and then master them in the workplace day to day.
“By bringing the real world into the classroom and the classroom into the real world, this approach has become the most effective and exciting way to learn the key skills required for the 21st Century.
“We very much look forward to welcoming our first Accounting Technician Apprentices to GTI this September.”
