TV debut for Galway student’s song
A video of a song titled The Irishmen written and by Kathleen Devine, a final year student at NUIG and trainee teacher at St Joseph’s Patrician College (The Bish), is getting its TV debut this week. The video will be featured on the Muriel and Fran show at on Spotlight TV Sky Channel 376 at 11 am this Thursday and will be repeated on Saturday evening on the same channel.
Since its release in April, The Irishmen has become popular on radio stations from Sligo to Sydney.
In that Australian city the popular Celtic FM put it on its playlist beside songs by Christy Moore, the Sultans of Ping, The Coronas, The Script, and Christy Dignam. In Sligo, former RTÉ broadcaster Paschal Mooney was lavish in his praise for the song on his Afternoon delight show on Ocean Fm.
The Irishmen is available on iTunes, Spotify and other digital platforms and has got thousands of likes on Facebook over the past few weeks.
Kathleen is originally from Chester in England but has lived in Galway for the past two years. In her home area she has been interviewed by Martin Logan for his Out and About show on Manchester radio on 96.9 All Fm. The Irishman has also been on the playlist of Liverpool local radio stations and on London’s Spectrum Radio. And it’s being featured on programmes on most radio stations in Ireland.
The video for the song features scenes from around Galway as well as places around the world where Kathleen has either been a student or played at jazz festivals.
The record was produced by Tony Maher of The Conquerors at his studio in Headford and her first live performance of the Irishmen was at Galway Bay FM 30th birthday concert in Leisureland last December.
