Top musicians for Clifden concert celebrating Irish and Scottish links

The Máirtín O’Connor Trio and special guest Kathleen MacInnes will celebrate Irish and Scottish traditions in a concert at Clifden’s Station House Theatre next Thursday, May 7.
This show is part of Music Network’s latest tour as the organisation marks its 40th anniversary.
Accordionist Máirtín will be joined by Cathal Hayden on fiddle and banjo, Patrick Doocey on guitar and Kathleen on vocals.
A former member of De Danann, Máirtín was accordion soloist with the original Riverdance orchestra. He has collaborated with artists across genres, including the Chieftains, Christy Moore, Elvis Costello and Mark Knopfler. And through his compositions and arrangements, Máirtín has had a huge impact on Irish music.
A founding member of Four Men and a Dog, Cathal Hayden is known for his distinctive driving style on fiddle and banjo. He has performed and recorded with artists including Christy Moore and Donal Lunny.
For Clifden, rather than their usual third member, Séamie O’Dowd, the Trio will be completed by Patrick Doocey, a man who is recognised for his nuanced and dynamic playing, and is in constant demand as an accompanist.
Special guest will be Kathleen MacInnes, who grew up on South Uist, immersed in Gaelic language and song since childhood.
Her celebrated album Cille Bhríde received a Best Album award at the Scots Trad Music Awards and she has performed at at Glasgow’s Celtic Connections, appeared on The Transatlantic Sessions, and contributed to film soundtracks, including Ridley Scott’s Robin Hood.
The rich musical connections between Ireland and Scotland will be explored via song and music during this concert, which is part of a nationwide tour that also takes in Cork, Kerry, Dublin, Wexford, Waterford and Wicklow.
This show, being run under the auspices of the Clifden Arts Society, starts at 8pm. Tickets are €15 via www.musicnetwork.ie.
