Singer Eleanor Shanley is among the artists featuring this weekend as part of Ireland Performs, which was set up to support online performances by artists during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Leitrim-born Eleanor, who now lives in Ballinasloe, began her music career in 1989 as lead vocalist with traditional Irish band De Danann.

Since her time with De Danann she has made several solo albums, the most recent being Forever Young.  She also recorded with the late Ronnie Drew and is currently working on a project with Mike Hanrahan of Clare group, Stockton’s Wing.

For Sunday’s live performance Eleanor will sing and accompany herself on guitar. She has created a special set list of love songs which also have a subtext of travel, making them all the more poignant in the present situation

She will perform live this Sunday, May 24, at12.30pm.

Other artists taking part on Sundays programme of concerts for Ireland Performs include Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh of Altan and harper Laoise Kelly.

Each artist takes their own approach to their performance, streaming from their own chosen space. Events are streamed through the individual artist’s social media channels and on Culture Ireland’s Facebook page.
