Remote Control to help artists create new work
A new three-month programme taking place in Galway over the summer will support three locally based artists to imagine new concepts and ideas for work which can be developed remotely.
Remote Control is the brainchild of James Riordan of Brú Theatre and Jill Murray of Galway Dance Project. James is Theatre Artist in Residence with Galway’s Town Hall Theatre and the scheme is being run in conjunction with the Town Hall and Galway Dance Project.
The three selected artists will be supported by the three partners and will also receive further remote mentorship and online workshops, he explains.
They are seeking applications from artists based in Galway City and County, working in theatre, dance, visual art and other media, who are interested in finding new ways to engage with their audiences during this unprecedented time.
This could include people who are working remotely with digital art, as well as those engaged in site-specific, soundscape or performance art amongst other forms and styles of practice.
Remote Control will be facilitated by James and offers €1,500 per artist, in-house workshops (remote, if necessary), and remote mentorships with international mentors. It will run from June to August.
With this programme, the aim isn’t to produce finished pieces, explains James.
“It’s to develop practice, explore ideas and build networks and links between arts organisations and practitioners in Galway.
