Melodic and catchy ‘Superior Fiction’ from City’s Eoin Dolan
Galway songwriter Eoin Dolan has just released the melodic and catchy single Superior Fiction, a gem that evokes 1960s and '70s dream-pop at its best. Recorded in home studios in Renmore and on College Road, it’s worth seeking out online via Bandcamp.
“The three other lads who play on the record (Adam Sheeran, James Casserly and Conor Deasy) are good friends and fantastic musicians in their own right, Eoin says. “It was a really enjoyable process hearing the songs come to life in a relaxed and creative environment. If you're disciplined and have a good idea of what you want to do, home recording can be a dream. On the flipside, without these things in place, you can end up on a never-ending roundabout stuck in your pyjamas with your head glued to your laptop, trying to nail a glockenspiel take at all hours, that you didn't even need to begin with!”
He plans to follow up Superior Fiction with another single called Lunar Drift, “a song about platonic love and rejecting modern norms of individualism and social isolation”.
Eoin Dolan is part of a thriving Galway music scene that includes acts like Steven Sharpe, Dott and New Pope. Sharpe is about to embark on another tour of Germany and Switzerland, alongside fellow songwriter Katie O’Connor.
“The music scene in Galway is fantastic,” Eoin says. “There’s so much variety in what people are creating. It’s especially encouraging to see local artists touring the continent and elsewhere, showcasing their work to an international audience.”
