‘Magic Days’ with Jack L at Town Hall Theatre

Arts Week with Judy Murphy
The uniquely talented singer-songwriter and performer Jack L comes to the city’s Town Hall Theatre, on Saturday week, February 11 to mark the release of his latest album, Magic Days.
The self-penned Magic Days received a five-star rating from Hot Press, which described it as “his best album ever”, while RTÉ made it their Album of the Week.
Jack L and his band are promising a “spectacular event” for Galway, with some great new characters, including The King of Soho – which was the first single from the album – as well as many more intriguing creations from his vivid imagination.
Kildare-man Jack Lukeman, who has been music-obsessed since childhood, began his career as a busker while working in the bulb-fields of Holland. Before that, he’d been training as a mechanic in the family business in Athy, but music was his real passion and when he realised he could make a living from busking, he was hooked. That was in the early 1990s.
In 1995, he and his band, The Black Romantics took up residency in the Dublin Arts Club, focusing mostly on the songs of Jacques Brel, and recorded the album, Wax, that same year.
That was followed in 1999 by the breakthrough Metropolis, which went multi-platinum. Since then, Jack L has worked across a range of genres, supporting performers such as U2, Elvis Costello and Jimmy Page, and collaborating with the likes of Nick Cave and novelist Pat McCabe.
