Fungi the theme of Kinvara show

Mycorrhizal Connections, an exhibition of works by 17 Galway-based artists, curated by Hugh Murphy, will open at KAVA, the Courthouse Gallery in Kinvara this Friday, June 17, at 7 pm. The exhibition will run until Sunday, June 26, from 11am to 5pm.
The show is inspired by Mycorrhizal fungi, which form mutualistic symbiotic relationships with plants and trees, who would not survive without this underground network. Not only do human beings share almost 50% of our DNA with these fungi, our future is entirely dependent on their contribution to a healthy planet.
The artists in this exhibition reflect on the connections these phenomenal fungi create as they draw together all the elements in the natural world. They also explore how people, through our own connections, depend on and support those around us. Just as earth relies on mycorrhizae for its survival, people thrive through relationships.
The artists taking part are Helen Roberts Greene, Louise O’Boyle , Heather Watson, Roisin Doherty, Deirdre Crowley, Anne Greene, Caoilfhionn Ní Cheallaigh, Maria Donegan, Tonita O’Dwyer, Katie Burke, Toireasa Ward, Emer McDermott, Megan Lucy, Beatrice Stapleton, Áine Doherty, Hugh Murphy, Herminia Ayala Reyes and Laura Angell . All are welcome to visit the show in Kinvara’s courthouse gallery.
