A balance of “youth and enthusiasm with maturity” is how  NUI Galway Professor of Drama and Theatre Patrick Lonergan described this year’s Cúirt Festival of Literature when he launched the 2014 programme on Tuesday evening.

The Festival has certainly managed to bag some heavy hitters,  with Booker Prize winners Eleanor Catton and Roddy Doyle, and Forward Poetry Prize winner Robin Robertson among the writers taking part in the event which runs from April 7 to 13.The festival will officially kick off on April 8 with a joint reading by Irish writer Sebastian Barry and the UK’s Adam Foulds in the Town Hall Theatre, following the formal opening at the Meyrick Hotel. Other writers taking part in Cúírt include Joanne Harris, whose best-known novel, Chocolat, was made into an Oscar-nominated film starring Juliet Binoche and Johnny Depp.
