Kombu Ramen & Bao Bar on the city’s Druid Lane is celebrating its first birthday over the August Bank Holiday weekend and the occasion will be marked this Sunday, August 2, with an afternoon of brunch and beats.

Kombu will serve its new brunch menu from 12pm to 3pm on the day, while popular DJ Jenny Greene will perform a special set to celebrate the occasion.

The Japanese-inspired ramen and bao bar has become a local favourite since opening a year ago, and its chef patron JP McMahon says all involved have been “overwhelmed by the support from our customers. We are incredibly grateful to everyone who has dined with us over the past twelve months”.

He looked forward to “welcoming familiar faces and new ones to Kombu for a great afternoon of brunch and music with my friend Jenny Greene”.

JP McMahon is the culinary director of JPM Culinary Consultancy, which runs the city's Michelin-starred Aniar Restaurant and the Aniar Boutique Cookery School. He is also the co-owner and chef patron of the popular tapas restaurant Cava Bodega and the founder of the international symposium Food on the Edge.

Kombu was recognised at the 2026 Irish Restaurant Awards, where it was named Best World Cuisine in Connacht, and was also listed in Hot Press's Best Restaurants in Ireland 2026.

Brunch will kick off at the restaurant this Sunday running from 12pm to 3pm. Bookings are not being, so people are advised to arrive early.

Kombu is open from Tuesday to Saturday, 3pm-9.30pm, and 12pm-9pm on Sunday.
