The annual Vibe for Philo takes place in Monroe’s Live on Friday, January 6, celebrating the life and music of Thin Lizzy front-man Phil Lynott.

Gathering musicians from across Ireland, it will feature a set of songs that are revered by rock fans all over the world.

Monroe’s has previously played host to Eric Bell, a founding member of Thin Lizzy and the man behind the amazing riff in Whiskey in the Jar.  In an interview with the Groove Tube for that show, he recalled Lizzy’s first Galway show in Salthill, back in 1970.

“I remember standing onstage and Philip coming over to me saying ‘dig the light show’. And there was one electric bulb on top of the stage!”

Bell also spoke of the charisma and talent that made Lynott a superstar.

“He pushed himself a lot; he had an incredible amount of energy and determination and was always working on what he wanted. If he wasn’t writing songs, he was practising bass. If he wasn’t practising bass, he’d be working on his stage outfits. Making them look better and so on. He put so much work in to it, he was a totally dedicated guy.”

The dedication paid off, and although he died too young, Lynott left the world with incredible songs like Sarah, Dancing in the Moonlight, The Boys Are Back in Town, and so many more.

■  An evening with a celebratory feel and cracking tunes is promised. Doors 10pm, admission €8.
