ST. Jarlath’s were thoroughly outclassed by a highly impressive Naas CBS outfit in Saturday’s Hogan Cup semi-final in Tubber, Co Offaly.

The Tuam school came up against a side who were simply operating on a different level and played a terrific brand of football to which Jarlath’s had no answers. The Kildare school dominated in virtually all departments from the outset of this contest, to comprehensively book their passage into the final on St. Patrick’s Day.

Naas set the tone from the opening minute when they had the ball in St. Jarlath’s net within 50 seconds. Corner forward Niall Dolan goaled for Naas and Jarlath’s were on the back foot straight away. Points from Gavin Thompson and Seán Broderick gave the Kildare boys a 1-2 to 0-0 lead, despite playing against a strong wind.

St Jarlath’s rallied and scored two points from Seán Birmingham (free) and Conor Heneghan. However, Naas soon worked the ball incisively through the St. Jarlath’s defence before Broderick blasted home their second goal.

The Connacht champions responded with Birmingham’s second point. However, the full forward kicked some uncharacteristic wides during Jarlath’s most competitive spell in the first half.

Naas moved the ball through the hands effectively against the wind, and they had numerous scoring threats in attack. Colm Dalton, who got on a huge amount of ball, kicked an excellent point from the left corner, to make it 2-3 to 0-3.
