Galway WFC run riot against Cork opponents

Sinéad Taylor and Lynsey McKey both went home with signed match balls as their hat-tricks helped pave the way for a record 9-0 win for Galway WFC as they dismissed a weak Cork WFC side with ease in Sunday’s Bus Éireann Women’s National League contest at Eamonn Deacy Park.
Jenny Byrne (2) and Meabh Coleman also got on the scoresheet for Nigel Keady’s side in a one-sided affair.
Following the action in Eamonn Deacy Park on Sunday, two Galway WFC players were taking to the skies and a warmer climate as they headed abroad on International duty.
Meabh De Burca is one of four Galway natives in the Irish Senior International squad heading to the Mediterranean as they participate in the Cyprus Cup for the next 10 days. Peamount United duo Dora Gorman and Julie Anne Russell, along with Arsenal’s Niamh Fahey, complete the quartet and they kick-off tomorrow when facing New Zealand. They follow this up with further group games against South Korea and Switzerland.
Lisa Casserly is off to La Manga in Spain on Thursday, where the Irish U-19 side play three international games.
Dominican College Taylor’s Hill are in All-Ireland semi-final action on Thursday – but they will only discover the identity of their opponents later this afternoon.
The city side will meet the Munster champions in the last four of the Umbro FAI Schools Senior Girls All Ireland Cup, but a series of postponements means the Munster final is only being played today, with Coláiste Iosaif of Kilmallock in Limerick taking on Christ King Girl’s Secondary School from Cork in UL (2.30pm).
The venue for Thursday’s semi-final won’t be finalised until the winner of today’s game is known, but it has a provision kick-off time of 1pm. Ulster champions Moville Community College of Donegal take on Leinster champions St Peter’s College of Dunboyne in Meath in the other All-Ireland semi-final today in Monaghan.
