‘Pubtalk’ is all the gossip at popular Salthill Fives

SALTHILL Devon staged their 40th Five-a-sides last weekend at Salthill Park. The two day event was bathed in sunshine and the large crowds were treated to a feast of football.
The main event, the Carlsberg Nationals Fives, was contested by 64 teams with former winners Supernovas contested the final with 'Pubtalk'.
It was Robbie Porter's squad who prevailed over Shawn Gavin's Supernovas who had the consolation of seeing their team mate Sean Keogh being named player or the Tournament. Sean was presented with the Diarmuid Fadden Memorial medal.
The women's event was won by a Wexford/Athlone combination "Hanz is a Diver" who beat Galway WFC in an exciting final. Keith O'Shaughnessy's "Lifes2Good" were worthy winners of the plate, while the Over 35's went to West United for the third year in-a-row.
Perhaps the most exciting football of the entire weekend was played in the juvenile sections where Mervue United, came saw and conquered, taking home the under 11, 13 and 15 trophies.
The Fives continues to be a success because it is constantly evolving and the expanded under age tournaments were a huge attraction this year. They are set to expand further next year as the new generations continue the odyssey that is the Salthill Fives
